Songul had long been looking for a folk dance group which could diminish her longings for the music, and culture of her home country, Turkey, when she joined Mavi Dance, in winter 2004. In the past, as part of a Turkish Folk Dance group she performed at local dance festivals, in Turkey, and was also a member of a Jazz Dance group for a period of time. Having a great passion for the folk dance of the region of the Black Sea, Songul also enjoys playing tennis, bicycling, cooking, horseback riding, and traveling. Professionally, she is a registered nurse, having seven years experience at ER.
