Harem: For the perpetuation of the dynastic line and service to the Ottoman Dynasty, beautiful and intelligent girls were brought in from the neighboring countries to become imperial concubines (Cariyes). The concubines who were introduced into the Harem at tender ages were brought up learning the skills and strictures of the Palace. In this excerpt of Harem life, a young girl from Caucasia is brought to Istanbul.
